FETA OR FETTA...OR WHITE CHEESE IN BRINE 💃

The good news on Feta & (Fetta) cheese is that it is absolutely packed with nutrients. Feta cheese is one of the healthier dairy choices whilst also being so deliciously rich and creamy that it makes for a culinary celebration, in our books anyway !

At Olive Envy - Marinated Feta is at the top of our ingredients lists. We love it 'as is' on antipasti platters, smeared on toast for the perfect pairing with Avocado, tossed through green leaves and just about any salad, or easily combined with whatever's left in the fridge for a flavorful pasta or roast veg dish.

Let us share some of the many interesting reasons to love Feta (Fetta)..

If I use the EU standard then Feta (with only one T) can only be used to describe cheese made in certain parts of Greece from sheep and goats milk, this is the result of the granting of a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) in 2002.

So, if it has two T's chances are its Australian in origin, but not guaranteed to be made from sheep or goats’ milk. From a medicinal point of view - Feta comes in as a nutritious winner, lets explore its value.

Just 28 grams (one ounce) provides:

  • Calories: 74

  • Fat: 6 grams

  • Protein: 4 grams

  • Carbs: 1.1 grams

  • Riboflavin: 14% of the RDI

  • Calcium: 14% of the RDI

  • Sodium: 13% of the RDI

  • Phosphorus: 9% of the RDI

  • Vitamin B12: 8% of the RDI

  • Selenium: 6% of the RDI

  • Vitamin B6: 6% of the RDI

  • Zinc: 5% of the RD

It also has decent amounts of vitamins A and K, folate, pantothenic acid, iron and magnesium.

Also feta is lower in fat and calories than aged cheeses like cheddar or parmesan.

One ounce (28 grams) of cheddar or parmesan contains more than 110 calories and 7 grams of fat, while 1 ounce of feta has only 74 calories and 6 grams of fat.

Additionally, it contains more calcium and B vitamins than other cheeses like mozzarella, ricotta, cottage cheese or goat cheese.

BOTTOM LINE:

Feta & (fetta) cheese is a low-calorie, low-fat cheese. It is also a good source of B vitamins, calcium and phosphorus.

GOURMET LINE:

Feta is just yum ! Absolutely delicious in fact. It's surprisingly nutritious and easy to work with for the kitchen novice or the gourmand supreme.
